Abstract : The ALERT computer program is the application of a series of mathematical procedures to identify and classify sensor signals. These signals can be acoustic, seismic, infrared, electromagnetic or chemical. The identification and classification is accomplished by comparing recorded signals to a list (library) of stored signals of events. The ALERT Typological System Program is written in FORTRAN IV. Its present version is for a CDC 6600 computer and can be adapted to any other computer of comparable power. The program reads or scans selectively in a prescribable manner sampled data sets of interest from which it extracts typologically relevant parameters for classification. These parameters can be used for comparison with characteristic patterns in order to identify a specific event or they can serve directly as a typological master set to which other patterns are to be compared.
