Abstract : The report provides complete design details, drawings, methods and procedures for an automatic production system for gaseous radioluminous sources. These sources are of the all-glass type, with the radioactive fas and phosphor sealed within the glass unit. The design includes new rotary index machine-filling equipment. Since many sub-systems are included in the overall manufacturing system, these operations are divided into the following primary sections: Glass shaping, phosphor coating, radioactive gas filling, auxiliary sealing, and testing. Theoretically, any radioactive gas could be used in the manufacture of these sources. However, due to fundamental interest and the importance of conversion efficiency, all-glass tritium self-luminous sources, primarily, are considered for manufacture by this facility design. An auxiliary laser glass-sealing method is included for production of short-length and small-diameter tubular sources. This method produces sources with a flat sealed-off end. The requirements for overall plant operations are included, as well as a section on the health physics aspects of the facility. (Author)
