Abstract : The paper reviews six examples of allegedly easy computer systems with hopefully useful insights into why some succeeded while others failed, with emphasis on the extension of computer services to everyman. The examples range from interactive graphic systems to simple information retrieval services. The users vary from executive suite, to scientists, students, and the ghetto dweller. Reasons for failure range from culture shock to computer oversell; reasons for success range from faster and better solutions on the job to active community proselytizing. The conclusion is that there are no easy conclusions for easy systems. (Author)
