Abstract : A signal processing theory for photoelectron count signals is described and is applied to design a Wiener filter and a self-adaptive Kalman filter suited to the signal-dependent but uncorrelated noise which results with Poisson statistics. Experimental results using a laboratory optical communications system are described. (Author)
