Abstract : The problem concerning the applicability of the slot cooling technique to practical configurations is studied. In the report three-dimensional and crossflow effects on the cooling effectiveness on fuselage type bodies for different angles of attack of the body have been considered. An experimental investigation has been conducted at a freestream Mach number of 4 with 530R stagnation temperature and the injected coolant at about 300R. The correlation of the experimental results for the conical forebody and the cylindrical afterbody at different angle of attack show the possible deterioration of cooling effectiveness. A nonsymmetrical slot configuration which acts to prevent the crossflow effects has been investigated. The experimental results for this scheme indicate that possible directions for the practical solution of the problem exist. (Author)
