Abstract : The report documents the development of STAGE (Software to Automate Guidance Experiments) as of April 1973. STAGE is a software system which has been implemented on a SEL 810B minicomputer to set up, control, monitor and analyze an entire test for the evaluation of a precision inertial gyroscope. The main features of this system are its flexibility, operator simplicity and interactive capability. A SEL Real Time Executive Operating System forms the multiprogramming environment around which STAGE has been implemented. The real-time control tasks are set up in the middle ground environment and respond to interrupts from time interval clocks, controlled hardware devices or operator interaction. A command sequence builder task is used to fill out and edit preprinted forms which set up the desired control parameters and sequences. This includes the Fecker two-axis test table, the data acquisition hardware and the gyro electronics. The executive task carries out the required operation in a time synchronized manner while recording all test data on magnetic tape. The Background Operating System is used to extract the data from tape transform, edit, filter and plot it.
