Abstract : E SHIFTER USING LITHIUM-TITANIUM FERRITE. With phase states being scanned rapidly and frequency scanned slowly, a loss level of 1 dB with isolated peaks of 1.4 dB and 1.3 dB has been observed within the 3.1 to 3.5 GHz frequency range at switching times of 100 microseconds and 200 microseconds respectively. Attempts to switch in 50 microseconds have caused erratic increases of insertion loss. This phenomenon could be caused by inadequate uniformity of the remanent flux within the ferrite rod, leading to waveguide mode conversion. To achieve low insertion loss, a low anistropy, low curie temperature material was used. Consequently the phase shifter element exhibits a very strong temperature dependence and thus stabilization of the ambient temperature would be required in practical systems application.
