Abstract : The difference equation which the generalized Lucas polynomials satisfy has the same coefficients as the CayleyHamilton equation for the NxN matrix for which the Lucas polynomials are associated. The generalized Lucas polynomials which are associated with an NxN matrix are found explicitly. With this knowledge, the Mth power of an NxN matrix can be expressed formally. (Author)
