Abstract : The position of the earth's spin axis with respect to the crust was computed on the basis of Doppler satellite observations in 1972 for the fourth consecutive year. The standard error of the determination based on five days of observations was as low as 20 cm during periods when data from 19 stations on three satellites were used in computations. In addition, computation of satellite orbits was performed for isolated time spans dating back to 1964, and changes in latitude residuals were computed for each station for the period 1964-1972; the changes were consistent with the standard error of 10-20 cm/year.
