Abstract : The objective of this program was to develop a reliability based procedure applicable to the characterization of adhesive bonded joints subjected to fatigue loading. Emphasis was placed specifically upon laminate-to-metal application. An approach to evaluation of the strength/lifetime of bonded joints through use of a random (load- by-load) fatigue spectrum and a reliability analysis is reported. The analysis centers on two lifetime characterization models, maximum load versus lifetime and residual strength versus lifetime. Test data are presented that includes static and lifetime data for titanium-to-titanium and graphite laminate-to-titanium overlap bonded joints. Lifetime data includes constant amplitude, random tension, and random tension plus GAG LOADINGS. (Author, modified-PL)
