Abstract : Extensive testing and examination of packages formed under properly regulated conditions indicates that skin-packaging satisfies the requirements of both methods 1C and III as prescribed in MIL-P-116. Data developed through testing has resulted in the ability to select an appropriate film substrate combination for Method III packs, based on the weight and dimensions of the item to be packaged. A comparison of skin-packaging costs with costs for currently used packs fabricated in accordance with transportation packaging orders has demonstrated the ability of skin-packaging to compete in terms of cost effectiveness.
