Abstract : The report deals with the problem of adaptive control of an aircraft in atmospheric turbulence. The problem is approached by first identifying the unknown coefficients and then applying optimal control theory to the system so determined. The theory developed is general enough to apply to any linear system with unknown coefficients and state noise. The bulk of the development concerns the identification problem and several methods are studied. In particular, what may be called 'stochastic' identification method, taking into account the unknown state noise, is studied for the first time.
