Abstract : An analysis of a shorted Mg-steel seawater battery as an electrochemical energy source for military divers heating shows it is practical. Theoretical available energy is 3025 WHr/Lb. of Magnesium. The present system is a single multiplate cell with all plates shorted. A heat exchanger unit and circulating system transfer the available heat to the diver. Control may be either in the cell or in the heat exchanger. The report primarily discusses the electrochemistry of the system.
