Abstract : The arc-driven laser facility was made available for a brief period while the high energy pulsed laser was down, and an attempt was made to operate the facility as an O2 + CS2 chemical laser where the hot N2 from the arc was to disassociate the O2 in the plenum and He + CS2 was to be mixed with these gases in the supersonic mixing mode. However, at no time was lasing obtained when the laser was operated in this mode; but, when O2 was omitted from the plenum due to a failure to operate the O2 Marotta valve, lasing was obtained when He + CS2 was mixed with only nitrogen in the supersonic mixing mode. The results which were obtained during this brief period of experimentation are presented in this report. (Author)
