Abstract : A system of equations has been developed to determine the area (ground resolution) on the surface of the earth observed by a satellite-borne sensor. These equations were used to investigate the relative change in ground resolution for a sensor viewing at other than the subsatellite point. Computations were performed for various values of satellite altitude, viewing angle, and field of view of the sensor. Selected results are presented in graphic and tabular form. Results indicate that, for a fixed satellite altitude, the relative change in ground resolution is a function primarily of the viewing geometry, with only minor dependence upon the size of the field of view.
