Abstract : The paper draws on recognized works on the development of current amphibious doctrine to establish an historical perspective of current doctrine and as a point of departure for the discussion of the Mobile Sea Base Concept. Works of recent authors, appearing in current professional military journals, are utilized to provide a framework for the discussion of the Mobile Sea Base concept. The paper goes on to discuss the Sea Base Concept as an element of a Sea Power Strategy. Sea Power Strategy is then discussed in relation to the Nixon doctrine and its implications today and for the foreseeable future.
