Abstract : A general expression for the nonsteady-state growth or evaporation of droplets in gaseous media is obtained from simultaneous solution of the differential equations for vapor diffusion and heat conduction. It is assumed that environmental conditions of temperature and vapor density vary exponentially with time, and the Clausius-Clapeyron equation for the variation of the saturation vapor density with temperature is approximated by a linear relationship. The gas temperature and vapor density at the droplet surface are assumed to be in equilibrium with the droplet surface. Analytical solutions are obtained with the aid of the Laplace transformation.
