Abstract : The chemical nature of 'slow reacting substance' (SRS) from guinea pig lung was investigated. The substance appears not to be a protein, a peptide, or a carbohydrate containing molecule. Repeated column chromatographic experiments seemed to indicate that SRS had a molecular weight in the range of 2000-5000 but nearer the low end of this range by its running behavior on the columns. That SRS may be a lipid like material which incorporates both the methyl groups and the aliphatic chain of choline has been described in some detail. (Author)
