Abstract : The primary purpose of the contract was to see if it was worthwhile to use the 62-inch telescope on Mt. Wilson for either a 5 or 10 micrometers survey. It was found that the sensitivity of a system using the 62-inch telescope was too low in comparison with that of the AFCRL rocket survey to justify a complete ground based sky survey. During the second and third years a systematic project of observing over a dozen bright 10 micrometers sources was followed to understand how they vary and what the mechanism for their emission processes is. After the AFCRL survey was completed those sources which have been identified with IRC sources were looked at selectively. (Author)
