Abstract : Investigations were conducted to evaluate the feasibility of achieving improved aluminum solar cell contacts and interconnects which could reduce overall solar array cost and weight without sacrifice of performance and reliability. Problems of poor adherence and thickness control of the contact metallization were encountered during the course of the program. Efforts to resolve these problems were unsuccessful. Because of the serious contact metallization problems, no effort was expended in attempting to achieve advanced wrap-around contact configurations or interconnection of cells using the electroforming technique.
