Abstract : Equations are developed which govern the behavior of a wall-stabilized electric arc in which heat transfer takes place via conduction and radiation emission and reabsorption within the heated gas. The differential approximation is used to describe the radiative transport. Several numerical schemes are described which were used in an attempt to integrate these equations; none were found to work for all values of the absorption coefficient. A discussion of the development of higher-order differential approximations is also included. (Author)
