Abstract : INING STRESS-STRAIN PROPERTIES OF THE INDIVIDUAL COMPONENTS OF COMPOSITES. Also presented are specimen configuration, specimen construction details, test set-up, and test results on several specimens of glass/epoxy material. The procedures include a method for testing composite specimens in tension in which loading eccentricities are minimized. This method includes a technique for fabricating specimens with low eccentricity and for initial alignment of the loading train when the specimen is installed. Analysis of test results indicate that accurate, in-situ values of fiber and matrix elastic moduli can only be obtained if precise values of the fiber volume fraction are available. The results also indicate that when the precision of fiber volume fraction value is low, inconsist-ent values of the in-situ moduli result. (Author-PL)
