Abstract : The problem of determining the suitability of a system for some intended purpose by testing it against a number of prescribed requirements r(1), r(2), ..., r(n) where each requirement, r(i), has an a priori probability of passage is considered. An application of Boolean algebra to assist the computation of conditional probabilities is presented; an information theory analogy is noted; and an implication for risk analysis is suggested.
