Abstract : A two stage technique for producing carbon replicas for electron fractography is described. Standard lucite metallurgical mounts are used to make the initial negatives and the fragile carbon replicas are released flat and undistorted when the plastic samples are immersed in chloroform bath. Electron microscopical comparisons between replicas produced by the lucite technique and by the commonly-used cellulose acetate procedure indicate that those produced using lucite give better overall replica fidelity.
