Abstract : In this study, in which the duration of monocular deprivation was extended by 7 days and a 14-day follow-up period was introduced, the authors wished to determine whether the performance of the nonoccluded eye would continue to improve during the second week or whether it would begin to decline towards the baseline level, an effect which might occur as a result of the subject's adaptation to the novelty of the experimental condition. A 'step-like' increment in critical flicker frequency performance on day 11, an improvement that occurred after a plateau had been reached on days 7 and 9 was reported. This visual improvement is of a long lasting nature, being present to some degree, in most subjects, 14 days after removal of the eye patch.
