Abstract : A computer program was used to find the total magnetic field strength at arbitrary points in space within a solenoid with correction coils. This solenoid configuration is designed for use in a nuclear magnetic relaxation flowmeter requiring a field homogeneity of plus or minus 0.001 gauss resolution. The computer calculations indicated that the solenoid simulated will theoretically produce a magnetic field homogeneous to plus or minus 0.001 gauss within a cylindrical region within the solenoid. This homogeneous magnetic field region is large enough to meet the requirement of the nuclear magnetic relaxation flowmeter. Computed data are also presented on a single solenoid without correction coils to show the inhomogeneity of the total field strength within an uncorrected solenoid. All of these calculations use the assumptions of perfectly homogeneous cylindrical currents and perfectly cylindrical solenoids and correction coils. (Author)
