Abstract : The analysis of kinetic data for electrode reactions which are strongly influenced by the double layer and which involve parallel reaction steps is considered. Kinetic data for the electroreduction of ferricyanide anion in both water and formamide are presented and analyzed. It is shown that the double layer effect in these systems can be qualitatively attributed to a non-equilibrium distribution of the reactant in the double layer and to participation of ion pairs in the reaction mechanism.
