Abstract : The composition of hydrocarbons in petroleum and the composition of hydrocarbons isolated from marine organisms are discussed with the purpose of selecting the best analytical techniques for the quantification of petroleum contamination in marine organisms. Analytical techniques discussed include column, thin layer, and high pressure liquid chromatography; I.R., U.V. and U.V.-fluorescence spectrometry; gas chromatography; mass spectrometry; and combinations of the preceeding.
