Abstract : Measurements of the plastic flow stress and 30 MHz ultrasonic attenuation in normal and superconducting 99.9999% pure In and Pb are presented. For both In and Pb, with a strain rate of 0.00001/sec, the attenuation change delta alpha(sn) takes about 3 s while the related flow stress change delta sigma(sn) takes about 30 s. In indium delta alpha(sn) and delta sigma(sn) are completed in about 40 s; in Pb the corresponding times are about 3 s or less. Experimental evidence is presented which shows unequivocally that the dislocation arrangements in the normal and superconducting states are 9different.
