Abstract : The structures of the wave-induced perturbations in a turbulent boundary layer over a mechanically generated monochromatic wave-train were experimentally investigated. Both the amplitude and phase of the wave-induced pressure and the two wave-induced velocity components were studied. The wave-induced Reynolds stress and the power input were computed. The magnitude of each term in the governing energy-balance equation was evaluated through the measured values. It was found that each of the wave-induced pressure and velocity components has certain phase and amplitude distribtuion with respect to the distance from the wave surface. Each also varies with the ratio of the mean wind speed and the wave celerity. An effort was made to evaluate the integral energy balance equation through the experimental data.
