Abstract : The subject of this report is an examination of the feasibility of using a long-baseline interferometer aboard a ship as a navigational device. The ideal theoretical resolution of such an interferometer with a correlation-receiver has the potential of determining the latitude and longitude of a ship at sea with great accuracy. The report provides the framework for computing position from certain types of data and deals with the special considerations of interferometry pertinent to a navigational system and the navigational technique proper.
