Abstract : Certain goodness-of-fit tests involve transformations to produce a set of values which should be uniformly distributed when the null hypothesis is true. When it is not true, it is generally assumed that a test for uniformity of the final observations will give large values of the Kolmogorov or similar test statistics. This is not however always correct; the final observations may turn out to be very evenly spaced. The paper illustrates such situations, and gives tastes of the lower tail of the Kolmogorov statistic and a closely-related statistic, for use in tests in the situation described. (Author)
