Abstract : An effort is being made to develop a valid questionnaire to identify prospective business general managers. The population studied is a group of men among Stanford MBA graduates in seven classes, 1961-67. While in school, these men had been given a nine-instrument battery aimed at manager potential. Three of the instruments, the individual background survey (IBS), SVIB, and GZTS had items that differentiated general managers from non-general managers. A cross validation item analysis was performed on an independent sample that showed substantial shrinkage. The resultant cross-validated items relate to a measure of energy ascendance, particularly in speaking, speed, and health. (Author)
