Abstract : A study was made to investigate a method of nondestructive testing (NDT) as related to fatigue crack damage. Vibration techniques, a high speed fatigue testing machine, and a small digital computer were used to attain research objectives. The vibration analysis consisted of vibrating 1040 hot rolled steel fatigue specimens after periodically being dismounted from a fatigue testing machine. While being vibrated by mechanical means, the dynamic characteristics of the specimen with the fatigue cracks were recorded. (Author)
