Abstract : The Aerospace Corporation was created in 1960 to provide General Systems Engineering and Technical Direction services to the U.S. Air Force and its contractors in support of national space and missile programs. As the priorities associated with these programs have changed in the intervening thirteen years, the role of Aerospace has changed considerably. Today, Aerospace is pursuing an active diversification program and has gained de facto independence of its founder and primary sponsor, the U.S. Air Force. The contemporary situation needs close examination by a competent agency to determine if the management concept embodied in Aerospace is still the best way to obtain these services and if national security interests are being served adequately.
