Abstract : 762705-A-05503(*cathode ray tube screens, phosphorescent materials), (*phosphorescent materials, brightness), luminescence, fluorescent screens, electron beams, density, thicknesscathodoluminescence, current densityMaximum brightnesses of 136,000, 56,000 and 13,400 foot lamberts were measured for P2, P1, and P24 phosphor screens, respectively, at high voltage (to 60 KV) and high power density (to 21 watts/sq cm) electron beam excitation. Increasing brightness with beam voltage and beam current reached maxima limited by deterioration of the excited phosphor area at the very high electron beam power densities (6.0-9.5 W/sq cm for the phosphors in this study). A range of phosphor screen thicknesses (1.7 - 15.6 mg/sq cm) was used in this study. An average value of 6.5 mg/sq cm for screen thickness gave optimum brightness results. (Author)
