Abstract : The authors develop a modification for a method of isolating the factor which stabilizes fibrin from the blood plasma of cattle. With use of this method it is possible to purify fibrin by a factor of 300 times. The reaction of covalent 'stitching' of fibrin takes place with great speed in the 'coarse' gels which are generated in the process of polymerization of the fibrin monomer at pH of 7.6 and ionic strength of 0.14. In the 'fine' gels, which arise at low values of ionic strength of the medium and also in the presence of NaNO3, the reaction referred to is retarded. In the 'coarse' gels, there is predominant a formentation of stabilization; this is sensitive to the ionic strength of the medium within the range from 0.14 to 0.23. (Author)
