Abstract : Analysis of various taut, subsurface, deep moorings in a high-shear current are summarized. Wire rope, nylon, and Fiber-B lines are compared, as well as the effects of distributed buoyancy and enclosing fairing. Fiber-B is potentially better than steel wire. Fairing has a stronger effect. Both Fiber-B and fairing pose practical problems. Vertical deflections of 5% of depth are obtainable. Deflections of 1% or less require extraordinary measures. (Author)
