Abstract : The research program is directed toward the application of adaptive computer techniques for aiding the decision maker and toward the experimental investigation of the factors which influence optimal decision aiding in complex, realistic, open, intelligence-gathering tasks. The report presents the initial six month's progress. It includes: (1) a survey of relevant literature; (2) a system design for a dynamic decision-aiding system; (3) a design for a simulated real-world, dynamic-decision task in the form of an intelligence-gathering game; (4) the development and discussion of techniques for performance measurement; and (5) specifications for software and hardware necessary to implement the system. The report sets the documentary and technical basis for the implementation of the dynamic decision-aiding system and for the design and performance of subsequent experiments.
