Abstract : A method for preparing Fe-C-S alloys containing up to 3% C and 5% S is described. Such alloys are required for various experiments, for example the effect of sulphur on the rate of oxidation of carbon (1). The method used for their preparation consisted of: pelletizing mixed powders of iron, graphite and sulphur; sintering the pellets at 800C; finally melting them under vacuum. The note also indicates the magnitude of the losses of carbon and sulphur.
