Abstract : The promise of selected nNiCrMo steels for advanced reactor vessel applications was demonstrated. Generally superior radiation embrittlement resistance, as well as superior preirradiation transition temperatures (Charpy-V 30-ft-lb index), were observed relative to the performance of A533 plates and welds of current usage. With only two exceptions, the A543 plates and A508 forgings examined showed sufficient resistance to a fluence of 4 x 10 to the 19th power n/sq cm>1 MeV to retain a subzero transition temperature. Weld deposits typically had higher postirradiation temperatures than parent plates.
