Abstract : The paper discusses the origin and historical development of design languages. In particular, it traces the development of Computer Design Language. The semantics and syntatics of Computer Design Language are explained and illustrated. Finally, a proposal is made for a course in Computer Organization to be taught at the U.S. Naval Academy, which will use Computer Design Language and its computer implementation as a basis for the study of digital computers. Computer Design Language (CDL) is a simulation and design language which was developed to simplify the task of designing digital computers. It provides the design engineer with the ability to simply and concisely describe the hardware configuration of a digital computer and its operation. (Modified author abstract)
