Abstract : , Heat treatment, Hardness, Microstructure, Aluminum alloys, Vanadium alloysTitanium alloy 6Al, 4VSpecimens of Ti-6Al-4V alloy were heat treated to produce several equilibrium compositions of the alpha and beta phases whose minimum dimensions were 10 microns. The phases were analyzed with an electron microprobe analyzer and their compositions were evaluated based on a microprobe analysis of standard compositions made up of the major alloying elements. The vanadium partitioned preferentially to the beta phase while the aluminum partitioned preferentially to the alpha phase, but not to the extent expected. The results are correlated with the published literature. Selected compositions of the alpha and beta phases were synthesized. The results of aging studies on the single phases are compared to the composite alloy. (Author)
