Abstract : The primary objective of this trade study is to directly install the air cushion landing system (ACLS) as developed by the Flight Dynamics lab, in the MST configuration and compare it with a conventional landing gear. The initial ACLS design was for as large a cushion area as practical. Direct performance comparisons with conventional gear at the same CBR or field rating proved to be difficult with this size cushion. It was decided to try a second ACLS design with four times the cushion pressure of the initial concept. These concepts are called low- and high-pressure ACLS designs, respectively.
