Abstract : Studies of the mechanisms of photoreactions of organic compounds and of the curious photochemical consequences of irradiation of pure, or very concentrated samples of compounds at the extreme long wave-length edge of their absorption spectra are summarized. Three mechanistic studies are reported: (1) the photochemical rearrangement of phenyl allyl ethers, (2) development of a general method for measuring quantum yields of triplets, (3) effects of varying wave-length on the photochemistry of piperylenes.
