Abstract : The objective of this research was to provide a basis for the behavioral assessment of the incapacitating effects of infectious diseases, and the beneficial effects of symptomatic treatment (applied in the case of a viral infection). Thus, the major thrust of the research was the experimental study of the effects of illness on sustained performance--performance measured with the use of a multiple-task performance battery in a synthetic-work situation.
