Abstract : The effect of thermoelectric cooling has been known since the early 1800's. This report covers the effort necessary to design, develop, and build an environmental control system employing the Peltier effect and solid-state controls. The results of the program suggest that although a workable system is feasible, the state-of-the-art, as related to thermoelectric devices and the materials from which they are made, is not sufficiently advanced to replace existing systems on a practical basis. The use of solid-state controls in an environmental control system did, however, prove successful and practical. (Author)
