Abstract : The respiration of four species of thecosomatous pteropods, Diacria trispinosa, Cuvierina columnella, Clio pyramidata and Limacina helicoides, was determined at various temperatures (0-30C) and pressures (1-200 atm). Respiration of Diacria, Cuvierina and Clio, is controlled only by temperature over their normal depth ranges of occurrence, but is significantly stimulated by pressure at greater depths. Limacina helicoides is normally found below 490 m and its respiration is constant from 500 to 2000 m, influenced primarily by temperature. (Author)
