Abstract : The study defined the capabilities for atmospheric profiling achievable with spaceborne passive microwave sensors based on current technology. This volume, Volume II, serves as an introductory volume to the application of microwave sensors in meteorology. This volume discusses the prediction problem, namely: (1) collecting sufficient data over a large enough area to specify the initial state of the atmosphere, (2) understanding the processes by which the initial state will evolve into later stages, (3) developing suitable numerical calculation techniques and the resultant computing complexity, and (4) the ultimate limits to predicting accuracy.
