Abstract : Theoretical and experimental studies were conducted to determine the stress and strain on a buried strain-sensitive cable sensor (SSCS) caused by a known time-dependent surface load applied at various horizontal distances from the cable. Theoretical and experimental values of the current and voltage generated by the SSCS were also obtained as a function of the perpendicular distance between the surface load and the SSCS, and a mathematical model for predicting current and voltage generated by a buried SSCS was developed.
